Going to the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center

A couple of weeks ago we went with a home-school group to the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. There where exhibits inside, but we decided to go outside first. The group split into two groups on the paths. One went left and one went right. I was one of the people who went right, partly because that I wanted to see the barracks first then go around the other way. So one of my brothers, my friend and his Dad, and I set off.

It was fun. We explored the barracks. Then we saw a tank and an artillery piece.

After that we went through a training course and saw the Civil War and Revolutionary War buildings. We learned that the colonial beds were so short because they slept propped up.

Next we crossed a soccer field to more tanks. One was painted to look like a tiger.  And there was a helicopter.

We met up with the other group at the earthen work fort complete with the cannons and mortars.

We continued on our way. There was a vantage tower.

Then to the best part. The day was hot. When we went into the German bunker, we cooled off because it was protected from the hot sun. After that, we went on to the World War I trenches.

The trenches were like a maze. We explored those and went to the last thing which was a tank in a fortification that would've been in Afghanistan in the war on terror.

We headed to the building. We checked out one of the exhibits with a cool demonstration of clearing a building in Afghanistan.

We met up with the rest of the group again. We left and ate lunch on the road while the others ate at the building.
